Chapple, who gave Georgia Southern the spark it needed for a tremendous come-from-behind win at Western Carolina on Oct. 25, left that game early in the fourth quarter with a high ankle sprain. He completed 10 of 14 passes for 140 yards with two interceptions and a touchdown before leaving the game. Chapple sat out the subsequent two games as he recuperated.
Saturday, Chapple started against Furman and went 39 of 56 for 323 yards and two touchdowns. In so doing, he set the school record for pass attempts and completion records in a game. The Eagles only attempted to run the ball 19 times Saturday, six of which were quarterback keepers.
"He's a really good player," coach Chris Hatcher said of Chapple. "He knows the offense really well, having been here. I really think that he kind of proved himself versus Western until he got hurt and unfortunately, he just was able to come back and play this week. It was a good change-up for us. We ran them out of their base defense. Their defense's kind of geared around stopping the run and we kind of ran them out of that early in the game."
William
Maxwell injury
