Hatcher wont be back next season.  For those of you who defended him to his last game, maybe you can understand why his contract wasn't renewed.  The Hatch attack just wasn't getting anything done.  Our offense was dreadful.  He was suppose to be a high flying offense.  After Jayson Foster left, so did any spark on the offensive side of the ball.

In my opinion, GSU needs a big name.  Current recruits are looking at this team as nothign more than mediocre to bad and then look at the other area schools who are succeeding, then look at GSU that just lost their head coach.  Why would a recruit choose GSU right now?  For this reason alone, GSU needs a very recognizable name.  A name that would bring in recruits just because of his name,...because thats the only way we get any decent recruits this year.

It doesn't stop there with the recognizable name though.  If GSU wants to be competitive again soon, this coach has to be incredibly smart.  He has to be able to put together a great staff and not look to division II, his family or even high school to fill his staff.  I can't say I know who this coach is right now, but GSU is going to have to pony up a little extra cash for a good head coach.

I am very thankful Hatcher is gone.  He was out of his league and that was very evident if you have even a tiny sliver of football knowledge.  GO GSU! GATA next year.

maybe they got along maybe they didn't, but the real reason PJ left was because of $$$. He got a significant raise by accepting the position at Navy over what GSU was willing to pay.

All he meant by the comment is that he had rather field a team of smart players - not a team of players with a 40% flunk out rate. The admission standards were lowered to make exceptions for Hatcher's recruits wuth the understanding that he could keep them in school. Guess what - he didn't.

I saw this program going nowhere in the years to come. We hired a division 2 coach - he recruited division 2 players - now we have a division 2 football program at best.

It seemed like a great hire at the time....so did VanGorder. Since the termination of Coach Sewak, out program has been torn to the ground and we are going to have to rebuild it from scratch. It's not going to be an overnight process...it's going to be long and difficult. I urge you to stay true to the program that made GSU what it is today.

STAY TRUE BLUE FOREVER!!

Jeff Monken from GT will be head coach and Greg Hill will be QB and RB coach and senior offensive assistant. Write it down.

Antonio Henton should have been QB this year. I dont understand what happened to him. He could have really helped GS and help save hatcher's job.

I am with Billyboygsu. I too have watched the practices and wonder what is going on. All these good players standing on the sideline. I went to a couple of practices and saw these dominating kids. They actually dominate the starters. Lets just hope that hatch didnt have a personal vendetta against these kids because what I saw at practice one week, I just knew we'd win the following Saturday but when that day rolled around, I saw none of them on the field. I think I saw a back or receiver on a special team. That was just ridiculous. I did some personal research on some of these kids because they dont have much on GS website and found that their stats outweigh much of what they have for most of the starters. Is there a rule against walkons that says they cant play.

The scars still linger after the firing of Sewak in 05. Four years later this once proud football power bears no resemblance to its former self.

The rebuilding of this team must start from the defensive side of the football. Coach Hatcher's teams were unable to stop the run and the two blow-out losses at South Dakota and Appalachian were defensive disasters. Armanti Edwards threw the ball at will against an overmatched Eagle defense.

I'm much less concerned about a return to the option than about fixing the defense. Defense does win championships.

The Georgia Southern Eagles represent Georgia Southern University in football as part of the Southern Conference under head coach Chris Hatcher. The Eagles have won an unprecedented six FCS (I-AA) national championships and eight Southern Conference championships and have produced two Walter Payton Award winners.) I know the ACC and SEC are major players in the business, but so are these guys(The Southern Conference (or SoCon) is a college athletic conference affiliated with the NCAA's Division I. SoCon football teams compete in the Division I Football Championship Subdivision (formerly known as I-AA). Member institutions are located in the states of Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee. The Southern Conference ranks as the fifth oldest major college athletic conference in the United States. The conference was formed on February 25, 1921 in Atlanta, Georgia as fourteen member institutions split from the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association. Southern Conference charter members were Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Maryland, Mississippi A&M (now Mississippi State), North Carolina, North Carolina State, Tennessee, Virginia, Virginia Tech, and Washington & Lee. In 1922, six more universities - Florida, Louisiana State, Mississippi, South Carolina, Tulane, and Vanderbilt joined the conference. Later additions included Sewanee (1923), Virginia Military Institute (1925), Duke (1929), and Wake Forest (1936). The SoCon is particularly notable for having spawned two other major conferences. In 1933, thirteen schools located south and west of the Appalachians (Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Louisiana State, Mississippi, Mississippi State, Sewanee, Tennessee, Tulane, and Vanderbilt) departed the SoCon to form the Southeastern Conference. In 1953, seven schools (Clemson, Duke, Maryland, North Carolina, North Carolina State, South Carolina, and Wake Forest) withdrew from the SoCon to form the Atlantic Coast Conference. Other former members (in addition to those listed above) were East Carolina (1964-1976), East Tennessee State (1978-2005), George Washington (1936-1970), Marshall (1976-1997), Richmond (1936-1976), William & Mary (1936-1977) and West Virginia (1950-1968). The SoCon is considered one of the strongest football conferences in the Football Championship Subdivision, and is considered a mid-major conference in basketball. It has also garnered considerable national attention from its recent success in these sports: in particular, from the now three-peat Division I-FCS champion Appalachian State Mountaineers, who stunned the #5 Michigan Wolverines 34-32 on September 1, 2007; and from the Davidson Wildcats, who reached the Elite Eight in the 2008 NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament by upsetting power programs Gonzaga, Georgetown and Wisconsin. . Georgia Southern plays them Dawgs in Athens on 8/30/2008. It will be the first time the two teams have played since the True Blue Bald Eagle, Erskine "Erk" Russell passed.(July 23, 1926 in Birmingham, Alabama - September 8, 2006 in Statesboro, Georgia) was the defensive coordinator for the Georgia Bulldogs for seventeen years (1964-1981) and head football coach (seasons 1981-1989) of the Georgia Southern Eagles. He was also the head coach at Grady High School in Atlanta, Georgia in the 1950's. He graduated from Auburn University in Alabama where he earned ten varsity letters. He was the last four-sport letterman in the college's history. Russell revitalized the Georgia Southern Eagles football team during his tenure, bringing them to three NCAA Division I-AA championships. Under his guidance the Georgia Southern Eagles became the first 15-0 of the 20th Century. His motto was "Just one more time." Erk Russell was the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame Coach-of-the-Year for 1984-1986; was inducted into the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame in 1987; inducted into the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame in 1991; became USA Today's Georgia Coach-of-the-Year and Coach-of-the-Decade for 1989; In 1989 he also became the Chevrolet-CBS Sports I-AA Coach-of-the-Year; and in 1996 he was the Olympic Torch Bearer for the Atlanta Games. Russell died on September 8, 2006 following a stroke, aged 80. (DAMN SHAME TO SEE SAM BAKER DESTROY ALL OF THIS)>>>

WHAT has Hatchwe brought to this program?

If any of the players will tell the truth, Hatch first season was good because he played real players that he did not recruit. From watching practice, the walk-ons are the better players. I asked questions about who certain players were in practice and was suprised to find out that all those better players on the team were walk-ons. Come game time, you dont even see them. You see them on the sideline. I purposely witnessed that at the 7 games that I attended. I watched some very good receivers in practice. Excellent linemen and a running back that was small but was one hell of a back. You never see these men on game day. What was Hatch thinking?

This is going to be tough road folks, for any new coach at GSU. We had a great thing going with the spread option years ago and the timing was right and we won championships. We had a great coaching mix with Paul Johnson and Erk Russell. I think the stink we have today was brewing but really showed up with Sewak's firing. The damage VanGoner did couldn't be overcome by Hatcher in three years if he had done everything right, which he didn't. There is more to do at the management level, I think to get an attitude to attract better athletes. We're spending too much time trying to go back in time. We should move forward now. We should quit showing films of the past to recruits and tell them what we can do for them now. Those flags, however, are to be cherished and respected and not used for private promotion. Why is a replica of those six flags flying on a flagpole in front of a Statesboro Bank? We have been stuck in the mud of our small pond... missed several chances to move up to 1-A where lots of teams we beat in Paulson are playing on national tv now. That's where our recruiting pool has gone.
