Hatcher wont be back next season. For those of you who defended him to his last game, maybe you can understand why his contract wasn't renewed. The Hatch attack just wasn't getting anything done. Our offense was dreadful. He was suppose to be a high flying offense. After Jayson Foster left, so did any spark on the offensive side of the ball.
In my opinion, GSU needs a big name. Current recruits are looking at this team as nothign more than mediocre to bad and then look at the other area schools who are succeeding, then look at GSU that just lost their head coach. Why would a recruit choose GSU right now? For this reason alone, GSU needs a very recognizable name. A name that would bring in recruits just because of his name,...because thats the only way we get any decent recruits this year.
It doesn't stop there with the recognizable name though. If GSU wants to be competitive again soon, this coach has to be incredibly smart. He has to be able to put together a great staff and not look to division II, his family or even high school to fill his staff. I can't say I know who this coach is right now, but GSU is going to have to pony up a little extra cash for a good head coach.
I am very thankful Hatcher is gone. He was out of his league and that was very evident if you have even a tiny sliver of football knowledge. GO GSU! GATA next year.
I posted a blog 2 weeks ago saying that Chris Hatcher wasn't getting the job done. The response was about 50/50 then. From what I'm reading on this site and others, I'd say it's moved to about 80/20 now. I think even those who were holding out a tiny sliver of hope that Hatcher was the answer has come to the realization that he was a mistake by Sam Baker. While there are those who are still forgiving and think Hatcher should be given another year, most now agree he needs to be fired after this season.
I love GSU. There is no arguing that. This isn't about me knocking the team or anything else, but what it is about is telling the truth. First, Hatcher never should have been hired. He was a kneejerk hire after the VanGorder fiasco and Baker had the GSU faithful believing in the move. Hatcher brought his Division II staff up to GSU along with a AAA high school coach. Think about that now. Most if not all of our coaches came from a lower level than the FCS. Since coming to GSU, Hatcher has not only not produced like thought he would, he hasn't even brought in decent signings on signing day. People once said about GSU, "they don't rebuild, they reload." That was completely because GSU seemed to always make the most of their signings. This has created a terrible situation for GSU. Hatcher has set GSU back at least another 2-3 years from having bad classes. Even if we do get another head coach, he's stuck with a tiny RB who could never work in a pro style offense, we have a very below average QB and our defense is just plain pathetic. Now, I will say some of our problems on defense could be fixed scheme wise. We do have a few players on that side of the ball. Offensively, it's just not a good situation. Some want the triple option back...who is the QB? We don't have a triple option QB. The spread obviously isn't working with this personnel...want the pro style? Not only do we not have the QB, we don't have an adequate sized RB nor do we have a TE who can BOTH receive and block well. We just don't have the personnel...and for that reason, don't look for GSU to be good anytime soon.
If you want to see GSU good again in the future, you better start praying Hatcher is gone before this coming signing day. Another bad class means another year set behind. Think any good high school athlete wants to come to GSU right now over say....APP ST? Very frustrated right now.
Look, maybe I'm judging a little harsh on Chris Hatcher but he's just not getting it done for GSU right now. I sat there yesterday and watched the most pathetic display of an offense I do believe I've ever seen. Now, NC has one of the top defenses in FBS . but honestly, I don't think there a top 5 defense. At any rate, let's look at why our offense struggled so terribly. We ran 3 plays people...over...and over...and over....and over...and over...and over. At some point, pretty much any defensive coordinator at any level of football will get it figured out.
I have a lot of beefs with Chris Hatcher, maybe some of you disagree with me. First off, I don't like the extremely small players he is recruiting. Come on, he's signing defensive ends that are like 6'0/225 lbs. Even at a decent high school level, you won't find a DE that small. That's a LB size at best. 2nd, our players just never seem prepared as the other team. Just about every game I've seen this season, we look a little lost at times. 3rd, he can't even live up to his own words. Remember what he said when he made his first public announcement, something to the sort of make no mistake, we'll get back to championship football and do it quickly. Did anyone catch the score of that SD game? Championship football? Hardly. Even the teams we have beaten aren't even that good this year. The only team that's even won more than 1 game is Albany but their competition is not that great. Look, my question for you is, if we still had Sewak and still ran the triple option, do you think we would be have the same record. I don't, and I think we would have beaten NC too. Matter of fact, I think we would be undefeated right now because the teams we've played thus far just aren't that good. At any rate, i'm sure there will be those who disagree with me. However, my patience is beginning to run thin with this "Hatch Attack"
